adapt and improvise – each drumtalk has so many unknown variables: What are the conditions? Where do I shoot? How much time do I have? What is the artist like? How well do we get along?
This time we had several huge school rooms to our disposal – and what lesson in music that was! Dave Weckl is to no one’s surprise a perfectionist all through. I have never seen anyone playing as emotional and technical at the same time like Dave does. Watching and hearing him play is witnessing pure and beautiful musicality.
But his will to perfection is not restricted to just music I realized a few minutes into our shooting. It is pretty obvious that Dave wanted this drumtalk to be as good as possible. And after a 90 minute lasting stream of wisdom he even agreed to drum on my whisky glasses for the Phil Collins video which you can see here. What a lovely chap!
